October is no ordinary month for Tilly’s Farm Limited (TFL). It’s a time when the company bursts into life with the sights, sounds, and flavours of Porktober—a global celebration of pork and its value chain. This year however, the 2024 edition wasn’t just a repeat of TFL’s tradition; it was a step forward, deeper into the community and broader in its impact.
The journey began on 2nd October buses rolled into Blue Skies, a renowned Fruit Agro Processing facility, carrying eager Agric students from Achimota School and Ghanata Secondary School. The young minds and their teachers explored the intricate processes that turn raw farm produce into world-class fruit products, leaving them inspired and brimming with questions.
A week later, on 14th October, the old Assembly Hall of Achimota School became a hub of energy as students gathered for the highly anticipated Career Day, which had the under listed industry trailblazers as resource persons:
- Mr. Benjamin Gyan-Kesse, the innovative force behind Kosmos Innovation Centre
- Madam Charity Annan Adupong, the dynamic leader of Meanan Foods
- Mr. Allistair Djimitey, a champion of sustainability at Blue Skies
- Madam Enyonam Manye, who’s revolutionizing farming with The Ghanaian Farmer
The students didn’t just listen—they participated. Grouped into teams, they tackled real-world Agric scenarios, brainstorming, debating, and presenting their solutions. Their enthusiasm was infectious, and their creativity, boundless. The day ended not just with applause but with a spark of possibility in each student’s eyes.
As mid-October rolled in, Tilly’s Farm turned its attention to those who form its backbone: the smallholder pig farmers. On 16th and 17th October, these hardworking individuals attended in-depth training on contract farming and management. Guided by GIZ Agribiz GOPA experts, they left empowered with tools and skills to grow their businesses sustainably and better manage their relationship with TFL.
Finally, as October ended, Tilly’s Farm hosted a soiree that brought everyone together—partners, stakeholders, clients, and friends. The evening was a heartfelt expression of gratitude, filled with laughter, shared stories, and renewed commitments to the future of Ghana’s pork and Agric value chain.
In that spirit, Tilly’s Farm extends heartfelt thanks to our incredible sponsors who made it all possible: Blue Skies, Meanan Foods, The Complete Farmer, Tale Beer, Coca-Cola Bottling Company, ThinkCr8tive Media, Invisible Hands, Edward Osei Boakye Trust, Kosmos Innovation Centre, GIZ GOPA, and 3E Media. We also deeply appreciate the partnership of Achimota School and Ghanata Secondary School, whose students brought such energy and enthusiasm to this year’s activities. Your support drives the vision of empowering Ghana’s agricultural sector.
For Tilly’s Farm, Porktober is more than an event; it’s a movement. It’s about inspiring the next generation, strengthening the Agric ecosystem, and celebrating the power of collaboration. With each passing year, the celebration grows richer, and the vision becomes clearer: a thriving, inclusive agricultural sector for Ghana.
